Learn about the Summer 2025 study abroad program that is open UIC students interested in biological research in South America, Field Ecology: Galapagos Islands (Ecuador).
Students will assist in research projects by collecting data on two different endangered species, the green sea turtle and the endemic Galapagos sea lion. Through snorkeling and using photo identification and computer technology, students will be able to estimate the population size. Excursions in Quito and the Galapagos include Otavalo Market and tortoise reserve. Homestays and excursions will provide students a strong cultural and environmental understanding of Ecuador.
During this information session, you will have a chance to meet the faculty director, Dr. Karin Nelson, study abroad advisor, Colleen Gray, and learn more about the coursework and activities the program includes. We'll also discuss funding resources.
