This program in Alcalá de Henares, Spain right outside of Madrid, welcomes UIC students taking upper-level Spanish courses as well as those still learning the language. In addition, students will enroll in SPAN 225 The Art, History, and Musical Nuances of Flamenco course, that will introduce flamenco's origins through a variety of texts, musical samples, and two flamenco shows in Andalucía, we will identify flamenco's major influences and understand its structure. We will apply this knowledge as we contemplate the complex nature of the art of flamenco as well as its place within Andalusian—and Spanish—cultures

Students can take a deep dive into linguistics and literature and enjoy socio-cultural excursions in and around Madrid will give you insight into the historical and modern day influences on Spanish culture.

During this information session, you will have a chance to meet the faculty director, study abroad advisor, and learn more about the coursework and activities the program includes. We'll also discuss funding resources.
