Medical Insurance

The University of Illinois system has negotiated a policy for all its campuses with Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (AJG). The AJG policy is designed for students, faculty, and staff who are going abroad for study, research, or other official UIC business.

For students applying to go abroad through the Study Abroad Office, coverage through the AJG international health insurance is mandatory. The cost of the AJG policy will be billed to your student account upon registration for your term abroad (May 1st for summer programs, July 1st for fall programs, December 1st for spring programs). Participants on a faculty-directed program will have the cost of the AJG policy included in their program fee. For all other students, please view the “Costs” tab below for more information on the amount you will be billed.

Please note that this international health insurance policy is not eligible to waive CampusCare while you are abroad. You are still required by UIC to be covered by domestic major medical health insurance while abroad. If you have questions about this, please talk to your study abroad advisor or contact CampusCare at 1 (312) 996 4915, option 3.

Important Note for Students Participating in a Partnership or Faculty-Directed Program:
In order to be eligible for CampusCare you must be charged UIC tuition and mandatory fees. Students participating in a partnership or faculty-directed program are not charged UIC tuition and mandatoruy fees, therefore, they are not eligible for CampusCare coverage. If your study abroad program begins later or ends earlier than UIC’s term and you need doemstic insurance coverage, you will need to coordiante coverage independently.

Faculty and staff whose travel is funded by the university or on university connected business are required to enroll in the AJG policy for the duration of their travel at no expense to the faculty or staff member. See below for enrollment details.

Independent travel outside of your official program dates (e.g. extended stay or early arrivals) is not covered by the university policy. The AJG policy also does not cover accompanying family members who are not dependents, or friends not traveling on university business. For these situations, AJG offers an alternate policy.
